Regis Prograis retained his WBC welterweight title

The American Regis Programs retained his WBC welterweight title by defeating the Puerto Rican this Saturday Danielito Zorrilla by split decision in New Orleans.

At age 34, two judges gave Prograis the win (118-109, 117-110), while the third considered Zorrilla to take over (114-113).

“I am convinced that the decision is in my favor. It was a difficult achievement, but I feel I deserve it”commented the winner, who was able to knock out his opponent in the third round, using a powerful left jab, although the KO was not achieved.

Prograis now holds a record 29 wins with one loss, suffered in 2019 against Scotsman Josh Taylor in a singles match.

Zorrilla, who knocked Prograis to the canvas in the last round after shoving him in the neck, without being counted out, fought fiercely until the end. However, he suffered his second loss in 19 matches.
