Juan Ayuso (UEA Emirates) starred this Sunday in a display of strength to win the closing individual time trial of tour of switzerlandwhere the final victory went to the Danish Mattias Skjelmose (Trek-Segafredo).
Ayuso covered the 25.7 kilometer time trial between St. Gallen and Abtwil in a time of 32 minutes and 25 seconds at an average of 47.568 kilometers per hour.
He achieved his second stage victory with 8 seconds less than the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) and 9 margin on Skjelmose.
The 20-year-old from Barcelona, who signed his fourth victory as a professional, finished the race in second place, just 9 seconds behind the winner, Skjelmose. Evenepoel completed the podium, third out of 45.
Skjelmose, 22, sealed the sixth victory of his career and the fourth in 2023. This Sunday is his second victory in a stage race after winning the Tour of Luxembourg in 2022.
The Dane was the leader of the Tour of Switzerland after the third stage, surrendered command in the fourth and regained it, all the way, in the fifth.
