Argentine Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is among three candidates to become compatriot Lionel Messi’s new Inter Miami coach, club owner Jorge Mas has reported.
Inter Miami fired coach Phil Neville on June 1 and handed the bench to Javier Morales as interim coach.
In an interview published by the ‘Miami Herald’ newspaper, Mas confirmed that there are three candidates on the table and Martino is one of them, without revealing any other names.
Martino, 60, coached Messi at Barcelona in the 2013-2014 academic year and with the Argentine team.
He also has MLS experience, having coached Atlanta United from 2016 to 2018 and won the League in 2018.
Inter Miami is the bottom team in MLS East and suffered its sixth straight loss this weekend against the New England Revolution.
Of course, he is a US Open Cup semifinalist.
