Jonathan Castroviejo (INEOS Grenadiers) it was announced this friday Spanish time trial champion for the sixth timeafter the test where the main favorite, Juan Ayuso, is fourthand Raúl García Pierna, defending the title, broke his bike and finished tenth.
Castroviejo again celebrated a victory in an individual time trial four years after doing it for the last time in 2019. In this way, the 36-year-old Basque cyclist extended a record, which already included five national time trial title (2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).
Oier Lazkano and Lluis Mas, both from Movistar, they were second and third, respectively, just three and six seconds behind, after completing a 32-kilometer route and 280-meter descent.
Juan Ayuso, the top favorite, had a problem with his bike when he crashed, his chain came off and he lost enough time to miss the podium in fourth place.
Raúl García Pierna (Kern Pharma Team), defending last year’s title, broke down on his bike. He had to change it and lost time which prevented him from fighting for victory.
On the other hand, the Catalan Mireia Benito was declared the Spanish women’s champion by defeating the main favorite, Mavi García, on a 32-kilometer route, which she overcame by just one second.
