XPO Logistics, official transport partner of the 110th Tour de France with trucks powered by sustainable biofuel

XPOa leading provider of innovative and sustainable transportation and logistics solutions in Europeit will be again official transport partner of the Tour de France for the 43rd time. Once the Tour starts on July 1, a team of more than 70 drivers and other XPO experts will transport and set up 690 tons of equipment (including barriers, podiums, arches, race signage , prefabricated furniture for the start and arrival areas, as well as sound and video equipment), after each stage, covering 3,404 kilometers throughout the cycling race.

For the first time, XPO’s fleet of 34 trucks dedicated to ASO in support of the Tour will run entirely on biodegradable Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), saving around 100 tons of CO2 emissions to make the race even more decarbonized Tour in 2023. The recently dumped Low Emissions Sustainable Solution (LESS®) from XPO is based on the use of the sustainable biofuel HVO to produce up to 90% less carbon emissions and up to 30% less pollution of fine particles and NOx, compared to diesel. In addition, two all-electric trucks will join the XPO fleet for the Tour de France cyclists’ arrival in Paris on Sunday, July 23. XPO is testing B100 biofuel for Tour de France since 2021.

Each year the Tour de France requires complex and specialized logistics, with more ambitious sustainability goals. XPO teams work closely with the Tour organizer, Amaury Sports Organization (ASO), to deliver the necessary material so that the race runs smoothly throughout its 21 stages, all within very tight deadlines. XPO and the Tour de France also share common commitments to safety and sustainability, with rigorous eco-driving training for the company’s professional drivers and commitments aligned with the Tour’s safety protocols. In keeping with shared sustainability goals, most of the uniforms worn by XPO drivers are made from organic materials.

XPO will also move the 2nd Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift with a team of 13 drivers, 70% women

XPO is the Official Transport Partner of the 2nd Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, which will take place this year from July 23-30. A team of 13 drivers will participate, including 9 women. 10 trucks powered by HVO will transport 150 tons of material in 8 stages and 956 kilometers from Clermont-Ferrand to Pau.
