The three famous Spaniards who had to play in the previous stage of the British Open

One of the most amazing days in the calendar, because of the tension, drama, stress, emotions and, above all, the many nerves experienced in a marathon double session in one day, is Tuesday of previous stage with a series of big names competing in the final classification of 151st British Open at Hoylakein just two weeks.

Four spectacular courses – Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, Royal Porthcawl and West Lancashire- will be very busy 72 players (288 total) in total 36 holes in search of the coveted prize of an exemption for The Open.

The number of places available for the final Grand Slam 2023 in the final stage of qualification has increased, which means a total 19 players will qualify for Royal Liverpool from July 20-23.

One of the great players who will hit the tee this Tuesday is the 2017 Masters champion, Sergio García from Castellón, two-time British runner-upin 2007 (he lost in a playoff to Padraig Harrington) and in 2014 (he finished behind Rory McIlroy the last time the Open was held at Hoylake). The one from Borriol will play West Lancashire. He will do so with his 2014 Ryder Cup teammate Jamie Donaldson and Matthew Jordan, a member of Royal Liverpool who qualified for the Qualifying Final last year and is now seeking a place in the Open again at his home club. Other notable players for West Lancashire were Graeme McDowell, Victor Dubuisson, Matt Wallace and Aaron Wise.

A notable group at Dundonald Links features Michael Block, a leading man at this year’s PGA Championship. Block will play alongside Ratchanon ‘TK’ Chantananuwat, the talented Thai teenager who reached the US Amateur semifinals last week, and Alex Wrigley, another successful 2022 Final Qualifier entrant.

Ten Spaniards are in action

They will also be in action in Dundonald Rafa Cabrerawho won the 2017 Scottish Open, and the likes of Mackenzie Hughes, Peter Uihlein, Aaron Rai, Jason Kokrak and Sebastián Muñoz.

Branden Grace, who holds the record for lowest round in Open history with 62 shots in 2017, is another name to remember. in the Cinque Portswith Charl Schwartzel, Thomas Detry, Dean Burmester and the Catalan David Puig.

Another Open runner-up will play this preview at Royal Porthcawl. Australian Marc Leishman, who played in the playoff won by Zach Johnson at Saint Andrews eight years ago, will start with Robert Dinwiddie, who suffered from CF in 2022 before signing off with a great first round at the 150th Open.

Royal Porthcawl’s field squad also includes Cameron Tringale, Jazz Janewattananond, Anirban Lahiri, Laurie Canter and Matthew Southgate.

The third famous Spaniard the one who will try his luck is the one from Madrid Gonzalo Fernandez Castano, framed in the Royal Cinque Ports.

In total there will be ten Spaniards in contention, six professionals and four novices.

Qualified for 151 British Opens on various routes is Adri Arnaus, José Luis Ballester (am), Jorge Campillo, Alejandro Cañizares, Pablo Larrazábal, Adrián Otaegui and Jon Rahm.
