Vingegaard: “The best phase for me is yet to come”

Date:

the danish Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma)head of Tour de Francecommented on the first rest day that he “didn’t expect to be in the yellow jersey” before the start of the race, noting that “the best days are yet to come”.

“The first week was good. I expect to be late at this point in the Tour, but it’s better to have a small start. I had some good moments and I think the best stages for me are yet to come,” said the Nordic cyclist.

Classified in front of the general with only 17 seconds of advantage over Tadej Pogacarthe leader predicts a difficult battle until July 23 at Paris.

“I knew I had to be at a good starting level. I am fit and ready to fight. It’s a very good rivalry with Pogacar, it’s great to see how we fight every day. One day I’m prettier, the next she’s outstanding. It will be an exciting battle all the way to Paris,” he said.

With the favorite for the final victory, Vingegaard does not want to risk too much.

“Who is now the favorite for overall victory? That’s a tough question. I don’t think there’s a clear favorite, but we both have options.”

For the head of Jumbo Visma today “the biggest difference is fatigue.”

“In the first week this factor did not bother you, but now it will accumulate. Very difficult days will come with long stages and many climbs,” he warned.
