“Gabri Veiga is not for sale”

Date:

Celta’s sports coordinator, Juan Carlos Calero, assured this Thursday that the U21 international Gabri Veiga “is not for sale”, so the club that wants to acquire the midfielder’s rights will have to pay the 40 million euros stipulated in his termination clause.

“Gabri Veiga is not for sale, we have the player. At the moment he is on holiday after competing in the sub-21 but he should be back on July 25 like Manu (Sánchez). From now until the end of the market, we don’t know what will happen, but he is excited about his return,” the club’s sports manager from Vigo told reporters.

Calero, however, has an “intuition” that the youth squad player, for whom great European football clubs sigh, will have “options” to leave because he has had a “brilliant” season .

“As of today there is no proposal on the table; there has been a lot of interest since it’s irruption, but no offers. We believe that he had a brilliant season, it was not easy to make his numbers in his first year, but in the end it is the market that will determine what will happen in his future,” he said.

Luis Campos’ strong man also denied in sports management that they have received offers for central defender Joseph Aidoo, one of the undisputed in the sky-blue eleven in recent seasons.

“He tells us that he is excited, happy, he always says that it is his house and his family is very happy here. At a sporting level we have him”, insisted Calero, who asked for “patience” in the arrival of the signings.

In this sense, he said that they already have “some names on the table” to strengthen the squad, but they will not make a final decision without hearing the “point of view” of Rafa Benítez.

“Rafa wants to get to know the squad well, give all the players with us a chance. From the return of the preseason in Portugal we will have clearer feedback, especially from players who, from the coach’s point of view, will not suit his way of working,” he explained.

Calero, however, admitted that he wanted to “close” the squad but assumed it would be “very complicated” because of “how” the transfer market moves in the First Division.

“We are clear that we have to take that leap, we want the squad to be competitive, but we don’t want to rush. The most important thing for the club is to have players who have the ambition to be here. We know where we have to improve”, insisted Calero, where Iago Aspas has to be the team’s “engine” for another season.
