The women’s group Spain returned this Tuesday morning to the Massey Sports Institute facilities in the New Zealand city of Palmerston North for intense training ahead of the world from New Zealand and Australia, starting this Thursday.
The 23 called up by Jorge Vilda carried out an energetic exercise session that included training in the gym, going to the field and back to the gym, as part of the final stage of preparation for their World Cup debut, on 21 July.
The activities, with the first fifteen minutes open to the press, included training in short and long-range passes, as well as speed plays and counterattacks.
This is the second training session conducted by the internationals in Palmerston North, a town located about 150 kilometers from the capital Wellington and chosen by La Roja as its operational base during the championship.
The Spaniards arrived in this city, of about 76,000 inhabitants, last Saturday, after spending a week in Auckland, the most populous city in New Zealand, where the team began their physical conditioning and process of local acclimatization.
La Roja, who are in group C, will make their World Cup debut next Friday against Costa Rica at the Regional Stadium in Wellington. For the second game they face Zambia on July 26 at Eden Park in Auckland. They finally return to Wellington for their third and final group stage match, this time against Japan, on July 31.
