Donny van de Beek, whose future at Manchester United is up in the air, vindicated himself today with a great goal that gave victory to the ‘red devils’ against Laurent Blanc’s Lyon in a pre-season friendly played at Murrayfield (Edinburgh).
This is the second win in many preseason games for Erik ten Hag’s team after beating Leeds (2-0) last Wednesday July 12.

After reaching 0-0 at halftime, Ten Hags change all ten players out and four minutes after the restart Van de Beek scored a fine goal at the endr with a fantastic volley a cross from the end line by Daniel Gore. The Dutch midfielder celebrated the goal in his first game since January 3 due to a serious knee injury suffered against Bournemouth in the Premier.
“When these injuries come, you realize how much you love playing soccer. Their months are very difficult.” Van de Beek admitted after the game. If this goal will change his fortunes at the age of 26? “For now It’s hard to say where my future lies. In football you never know.”
He still doesn’t rule out his departure
Van de Beek barely played ten games last season with Ten Hag and is ready to change airs if, it seems, he is out of minutes. “It’s a great moment for me. There is still a chance for me to leave but we keep it open”, he limited himself to what he said after the friendly against Lyon.
United deserved a more comfortable win but Goalkeeper Anthony Lopes avoided it in his outstanding interventions at the beginning of the game. But after the break, taking advantage of the fact that his players were fresher due to the massive line-up changes introduced by Ten Hag, he secured the win.
There still aren’t many internationals
Not like the Dutch, anyway cannot have internationals like Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Maguire, Eriksen, Shaw, Casemiro or Martial, Laurent Blanc waited until minute 63 to make ten substitutions at once.
