Max Verstappen took his seventh successive victory, his 9th in 11 races, and with 11 to go, his third F1 world title can be taken for granted. The Dutch driver increased his distance to second, ‘Checo’ Pérez, to 110 points, a distance of more than 4 races with his Mexican teammate, who for his part, in his return to the Hungaroring in second place, distanced himself more than Fernando Alonso who no longer looks at the possibility of fighting for second place in the World Cup.
‘Checo’ Pérez now leads Fernando Alonso by 32 points in the F1 World Cup standings after the Hungarian GP, more than one race between the two, a distance that seems insurmountable now that Aston Martin is no longer the second car. To fight for second place in the World Championship, Alonso needs to continue to make podiums with a car that allows him to do so, as he did at the beginning of the course. But now, McLaren and Mercedes have overtaken Aston Martin, Ferrari also by a little bit. And so, the man from Oviedo went from looking at second place, to seeing how Lewis Hamilton was on top of him.
Lewis Hamilton, with his fourth position in Hungary, is only 6 points behind Fernando’s third place overall (139 for the Spanish and 133 for the English). And watch out, because George Russell, at 49, with a better car should also come close. Carlos Sainz is 6th, just 3 points behind Russell, and 7 points ahead of his teammate, Charles Leclerc, who is 7th.
