The double Olympic and world heptathlon champion, the Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, The 28-year-old will not defend his title at the World Cups in Budapest, from August 19 to 27.
“Nafi’s preparation has been disturbed by problems with his Achilles tendons, and after various consultations with his team, he has decided not to risk aggravating the problem,” said the official statement released by his manager.
Thiam pulled out of the Monaco (July 21) and London (July 23) rallies last month, when he was entered in the high jump and long jump, respectively.
Thiam’s main goal is to win a third consecutive Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games. And he dreams of breaking the American outdoor world record Jackie Joyner-Kersee, since 1988 with 7,291 points.
Thiam has the universal top in the pentathlon room with 5,055 points.
