Medvedev crashes: one less problem for Davidovich and Alcaraz in Toronto

Date:

Daniel Medvedev, 27 years old and world number 3, was so confused that he lived a nightmare. A seventh double fault would surely complete a terrible day for him at Canada’s Masters 1000 ATP, in Toronto. He added 44 unforced errors, forced to condemn himself by throwing away several advantages in a semifinal that he ended up handing to the Australian. Alex de Minaur, 24 years and no. 18.

The Alicante-based ‘aussie’, directed by Adolfo Gutierrez, never let up, and took advantage of the Muscovite’s delusions, which he defeated 7-6 (5) and 7-5 in a two-hour and three-minute encounter. This will be the rival, this Saturday, of the Spaniards Alexander Davidovichwho gave a good account to the Americans mackenzie mcdonald: 6-4, 6-2.

Medvedev did his thing. He had a 5-2 lead in the first set. It didn’t work for him. Not even 6-4 in the ‘tiebreak’, his three set points. It was thrown by one who was double guilty.

His failure always came and De Miñaur came back, having already lifted the American 1-5 the day before taylor fritz.

In the second round, Medvedev was ahead again: 2-0 first and 4-2 later. He has no desire to fight and the rival is heavy on him. De Minaur struggled until he unseated the eventual champion in Toronto two years ago.

Medvedev disconcerting, De Minaur enthusiastic, who will have a fourth confrontation with Davidovich. The series from Malaga dominates 2-1 in the ATP. They have not been measured on the hard court and outside. For the Australian a debut in the ‘semis’ of the Masters 1000, which will be the second for the Spaniard, finalist in Monte Carlo 2022.
