He Nashville of MLS lost this Tuesday by 0-2 drawing of Monterey of Mexican soccer to qualify for the final of League Cup, where they will face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami. Englishman Sam Surridge and American of Haitian origin Fafá Picault converted for the locals, leading a Monterrey with little ability to respond.
The first half passed with both teams looking for the opposite goal; the Rayados had possession of the ball in favor 57-43, however, the Americans shot three times on goal, the Mexicans once. Germany’s Hamy Mukhtar scored a goal in the 12th minute, but Guatemalan referee Walter López disallowed it.
For Monterrey, the former Betic Sergio Canales he finished with his left foot and Erick Aguirre smashed the ball against the post, in two dangerous arrivals and Nashville, which was close to the goal with arrivals from the American Alex Muyl and Mukhtar.
Colombian John Stefan Medina shot wide at the start of the second half, but the locals controlled the ball and troubled the opposition defense with a shot from Picault. In the 55′ Lukas Macnaughton brought down Medina in the area and the referee decided not to award the penalty, which was confirmed by VAR.
Monterrey made an early mistake that Nashville took advantage of; Mukhtar leaked the ball to Surridge, fatally shooting in with his right foot for 0-1. Nashville was back with five lines to face the onslaught of Rayados, who were on the verge of equalizing with shots from Jordi Cortizo and Rogelio Funes Mori, which were cleared in time by goalkeeper Elliot Panicco. Nashville completed their good performance with a left-footed goal from Picault, on a 96th pass from Surridge.
The Nashville-Miami final will be played next Saturday, when the Rayados will seek third place against the Philadelphia Union.
