Laura and Lucia Ruiz, Cantabrian twins and great hopes of Spanish cycling due to their performances in the lower categories, jumped to the highest category with the Movistar Team at the age of 19. The blue team once again bet on the future of Spanish women’s cycling and announced this Wednesday the union of Laura and Lucía Ruiz Pérez (Colindres, Cantabria, 2004). Coming from the Eneicat – CM – Seguros Deportivos team, they jump to the WorldTour with a contract for three seasons, until the end of 2026.
Started in the world of cycling when they were only 5 years old, both starred in a brilliant development in the lower categories, winning many titles ‘from below’. As a junior in the Rio Miera – Meruelo team, Lucía won three victories on the international stage in UCI Nations Cup events, in Gévaudan (2022) and, for two consecutive years, in Bizkaikoloreak in Abadiño. For her part, Laura is the national road champion in Valladolid.
This 2023, as the first-year U23, both completed two WorldTour events: Burgos and, above all, La Vuelta Femenina, where Lucía -ultimate winner of the elite and U23 Spanish Cup, with partial victories including Noja and Beasain- scratched to a good degree on the hardest day. Both are currently studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of León.
