The new barrier-free toll gate, which will speed up the passage of vehicles through this passage in the toll of the Artxanda tunnels – in the direction of Bilbao – was inaugurated this Wednesday. For example, the design of seven central lanes, where cash, debit card or electronic toll can be paid, will be retained, and the side lanes will be replaced by gates with a “contactless” payment system without barriers.
As reported by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the “free flow” port is operational today from 6:00 am and is part of the digitalization strategy implemented by the Department of Infrastructure and Territorial Development to improve the management systems of these infrastructures and payment via ” contactless” means.
For example, the first phase of the Artxanda project for the remodeling and digitization of tolls to improve road safety has been completed, and the second phase will start in the coming weeks, which is expected to be completed in September. The renovation of this first part cost a total investment of 3.6 million euros.
