Zverev beats Medvedev in Cincinnati

Date:

The German Alexander Zverev extended his unbeaten streak at the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000 to eight matches. The 2021 champion, who was unable to participate in 2022 due to a serious ankle injury suffered at Roland Garros that season, slipped into the quarterfinals of this edition, achieving the victory he was eagerly chasing.

Zverev, 26 years old and world number 17, finally got his revenge on the Russian Daniel Medvedev, 27 years old and nº 3. Sascha prevailed 6-4, 5-7 and 6-4 in 2h.32′. He would see them with the American mackenzie mcdonald or the French Adrian Mannarino.

There was so much tension between the two adversaries that not infrequently came to blows. The Teuton endured more, being in an ascending series. And he got his first win against the Muscovite in the last five matches, this is the fourth they have played this season.

Medvedev continues to lead the series 9-7, but gets a nice slap on his favorite territory, the hard court. He failed to perform as well as on the spring tour in the United States. And he seriously fights double faults.

They were determined in their elimination last week in the quarterfinals in Toronto, against Alex de Minaur, the seventh match against Zverev means the ‘break’ which will set his bye in the next game.

The US Open is just around the corner, starting on August 28. Zverev, recent champion on the land of Hamburg, is growing, Medvedev is declining.
