The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will have a committee to address gender-based violence and thus avoid “shocking” episodes like that of the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubialesat the final of the Women’s World Cup, announced Tony Estanguet, president of the Olympic Games Committee.
“There is a committee, in our ethics charter, before any out of tone, violence or unacceptable symbols against women. Because, like the environment, we must together promote, both in sports and in society, the fight against violence against women“, said this Friday in a statement to EFE Estanguet, Olympic medalist in canoeing (2000, 2004 and 2012).
“What happened (Rubiales kissing player Jenni Hermoso) was shocking. We don’t want that to happen again. There will be (at the Olympics) solutions to alert, point out all inappropriate behavior“, he added.
In one year, the Olympic Games in Paris will host 14,000 athletes, half of them women, “the first time in history that this equality has happened” in an event of this caliber, Estanguet said.
