When they drunkenly ran over a cyclist and hid his body in the bog almost six years ago, twin brothers in Scotland had to spend a long time in prison. The fact would probably never have been cleared up if an ex-girlfriend of one of the two had not informed the police, Sky News reports Friday.
The man had led her to the grave in 2020, where she left a drink can as a sign of identification. She then informed the police.
The brother, who was behind the wheel, admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday in Glasgow, and his twin brother to five years and three months for complicity.
September 2017 incident
The men, now 31, were walking home from a party in September 2017 during torrential rain in the Highlands when they rammed a 63-year-old cyclist who was on a fundraising drive across Scotland.
Cell phone destroyed, helmet burned
Instead of calling emergency services, they buried the body in a remote area, hid the bicycle, destroyed the cell phone and burned the helmet, wallet and backpack. The police searched for the victim several times without success.
