Pedro Acosta falls while leading the race and extends his losing streak

Date:

Fermín Aldeguer crashed in the same corner as the man from Mazarrón on another black Sunday for the Murcian drivers

Everything that went well for Pedro Acosta in Moto3 last year, is going wrong in Moto2 this year. At Le Mans he was on the hunt for victory until he crashed on lap 11 of the French GP when he was only escaping for the win and already 0.8 for Augusto Fernández, his teammate at Red Bull KTM Ajo, who eventually won the race. Acosta is without magic. Something is missing in Moto2. Fermín Aldeguer also had his day. La Ñora pilot crashed in front of Acosta. It was in the same corner and the bike went away too.

Augusto Fernández, who had entered the Moto2 World Championship through the back door, is now happy. After a few races with a Speed Up in 2017, he found a place in the Sito Pons team in 2018 as a replacement for Héctor Barberá, and soon began to appear. And in 2019 it exploded and was even included in the contenders for the title, a success that eventually fell into the hands of Alex Márquez. He won three races, the last at Misano in September.

For 2020 he decided to switch teams to the Marc VDS in which Márquez had won, with the championship as his goal, but it didn’t work out. Neither in 2020 nor in 2021. This year he secured a place in the dominant team, Ajo Motorsport, last year, with Pedro Acosta from Mazarrón as a teammate. The idea of the Finnish structure was to repeat the successes of the duo Raúl Fernández-Remy Gardner, although the start of the season was less satisfactory than expected. See you this weekend.

Acosta took pole on Saturday, Fernández third on the grid. In the race, the two put nothing in the way of land. Acosta, when he was the leader, went down because of his mistake. A moment when Fernández was left alone, forcing him to manage the huge advantage that had been built up. And he knew how to win.

Pedro Acosta was not much bothered by his new crash, his fourth in a row this season. On the contrary, he wanted to see the glass half full. “I was in the lead, when I normally fall when I turn 15. This is different. Today [por ayer] I’ve been seen. It was a good weekend and I think we should be happy. The fall? The track is bumpy and it’s closed in front of me. My bike was gone”, explained the ‘Shark’ from Mazarrón. “We are making it difficult for Augusto and we are already there,” added Acosta, very hopeful for the future.
