Aymeric Laporte clarified today in an interview with ‘El Desmarque’ that this is not the right time for his return to Athletic. Both Jon Uriarte, president of the rojiblanco club, and Mikel González, football director of the Ibaigane entity, have indicated in recent days that the possibility of the Spanish international’s return today to Bilbao is “very close”. The player’s words about this are less emphatic.
“I had opportunities outside of Al Nassr. From Athletic? I was in contact with Athletic, well I’ve been in contact since I left. We were talking throughout the years that I left, it’s more like we stayed, came, went . There is no problem there,” Laporte said in the first instance.
The left-footed central defender clarified that “I know and I know they are always there, that I want to return the love and everything they gave me since I was young. I always say this: I will always be grateful for everything they did , but I thought the time was not right and I preferred to take another route”.
When asked which team he wanted to retire from, Laporte replied that it was “Athletic or Girondins de Bordeaux”.
