Wout Weghorst spoke yesterday, when asked by journalists, about the forceful statement of the former coach of the national team Netherlands, Louis Van Gaal which ensured on Tuesday night that Argentina’s victory in the World Cup final was all set. It’s pretty vague.
The Hoffenheim striker, who struggled after that tense quarter-final match against Argentina with Leo Messi in the locker room, was asked by ‘ESPN’ what he thought after Van Gaal’s remarks: “Well, I thought that Van Gaal is an honest and sincere person. Wonderful”. Then, the reporter changed the question: “So, are you telling me that you agree with him?” “You’re asking me,” replied Weghorst, “what I thought then. That’s what I thought. Whether he’s right or what my opinion is, I don’t know. But I think it’s wonderful that he says what what he was thinking.”
The journalist is still trying to find a clear answer, and Weghorst is still unclear. “It’s very difficult for me because there’s still a lot of feeling there. In the end you want to win the World Cup and if that’s the case… I have no idea. I hope not. I guess football, FIFA and us as football fans . . . we all strive to be the best in every tournament.”
