The French midfielder of Juventus Paul Pogba was temporarily suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, as reported by Italy’s national anti-doping court (NADO Italy).
The test, conducted after Juve’s 3-0 Serie A season-opening victory over Udinese on August 20, detected testosterone, a hormone that increases athletes’ stamina.
“According to the request proposed by the National Anti-Doping Prosecutor, the temporary suspension of the athlete Paul Labile Pogba is planned,” NADO Italia said in a statement.
The court affirmed that Pogba violated anti-doping rules by finding “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites” in the banned substance, adding that the results were “consistent with the origin of the exogenous one.”
Pogba, 30, was on the bench in the victory over Udinese. Juventus said it had been notified of the temporary suspension and was assessing the next steps. If convicted of doping, Pogba could face a ban of between two and four years. You will now await the results of the Sample B test.
“We are waiting for the results of the counter-analysis and we cannot say anything until then,” Pogba’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, said in a statement reported by Italian media. “The only thing that is certain is that Paul Pogba never intended to break the rules.”
