He Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) has announced the list of minimum scores that must be accredited by national athletes to ensure their presence in Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The event, which will be held between August 28 and September 8, will consist of 163 events including races, jumping, throwing and marathon, in which 584 men and 485 women will participate.
The system of minimum marks aims to guarantee that the places assigned to Spain are distributed according to high performance standards and that the athletes in the best condition are those who compete in the Games. Thus, a minimum grade of A ensures presence in Paris, while B grades, which are less demanding, will only be considered if the quota is not filled with a minimum grade of A.
As established in the selection criteria approved by CPE General Assembly in June, to prepare these tables, the international rankings of 2021, 2022 and 2023 were taken into account. The minimum A is equal to the third best time recorded during this period and the minimum B, up to sixth.
So far, Spain has secured ten qualifying places, all of them at the World Cup in Paris in July. Seven of them are nominal, the sa Yassine Ouhdadi, Adiaratou Iglesias, Gerard Descarrega, Sara Andrés, Nagore Folgado, Álvaro del Amo and Joan Munaralthough they must all confirm their good form by achieving a minimum B between January and June 2024.
The national delegation achieved three more places in this championship, two women and one man, which will be added to those obtained at the Track World Championships in Japan 2024 (two for each event of the Paralympic program), scheduled between th -17 and of May 25, and in the Marathon (six per event), not yet set. All these non-nominal quotas will be distributed through the minimum mark system.
Spanish athletes will be able to accredit a minimum A between July 2023 and June 2024, but the A grades achieved in 2023 must be endorsed with a B in 2024. For the minimum B only the period in between January 1 and June 16, 2024. In the case of the marathon trial, the period begins on October 1, 2023 and ends on March 1, 2024.
