The danish Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo Visma), double winner of the Tour and second in Lapfeatured his happiness for his teammate’s success Sepp Kuss and he said he understood the skepticism his team might have provoked in taking three places on the podium.
“We understand the skepticism there might be, but people don’t know the effort we’re making, how we take care of every detail. Especially this week when we did things well, that’s how you understand making a difference,” Vingegaard said.
Vingegaard, who in the previous Tour had to answer questions about doping every day, continued to give explanations. “There is no doubt about us. For me personally, a lot of hard work, sacrifice. When you win, it’s because you won, if you don’t win it’s because you didn’t win. For me personally, doping is not here. For me that’s not a sport. First you want to win, but doing something illegal is one of the things you can’t do in sports. That’s right,” he concluded.
As for the possibility of competing with the big three in the same season, Vingegaard does not rule out the possibility. “When you do sports you don’t do it for the money. The important thing is that my partner won the Vuelta. I’m happy. Regarding the future, I’m not afraid, but we have to face that challenge at some point,” he commented.
Vingegaard also stated that the “Jumbo Visma is one of the best teams, it is very professional, I’m sure everyone here wants to do well, this is the best team to be part of.”
