Xavi Simons has found his feet in the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig are now working to extend his stay beyond June 30, the date on which PSG’s loan contract, without an option to buy, ends. The 20-year-old Dutch playmaker has three goals and four assists in the eight games he played since he arrived in the German team.
And what does the interested party think of all this? “I already feel at home. I’m enjoying my stay here and I enjoy playing for Leipzig. I want to be successful, leave my mark on the club,” Simons said in statements to Sky Sport.
As for his future, he limits himself to say that “In football you can’t predict anything. No one knows what will happen in a few months. But now my focus is on Saturday night.”
Focus on Saturday’s Leipzig-Bayern
Simons hates rumours Don’t distract him from Saturday’s great game between fourth-placed Leipzig and Bayern, leader with one more point, at the Red Bull Arena.
A month and a half ago, Leipzig opened the season by beating Bayern at the Allianz Arena in Munich (0-3), with a hat trick from Dani Olmoand won the German Super Cup.
The reasons to choose Leipzig
Asked about his decision to join Leipzig, Simons said that “Coach Marco Rose is one of the main reasons. He told me about his ideas, which gave me goosebumps. His ideas about football suit me and my game. In addition, I play here at the highest level in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
“Neymar, like a father to me”
Simons also had words of praise for Neymar, who welcomed him to PSG when he arrived at a young age from the Barça youth academy.
“He already met me from Barcelona and he is like a father to me. I will be forever grateful for that. It was a great dream to play with my idol and he continues to be an important person for me,” highlights Simons. “It is not easy to be in a good team as a young player, with your idols and big stars, and Neymar played this role as a father. I am very grateful to him for that.”
