Date:

Carlos Alcaraz He said on Friday that he will “fight” to take over the number one position from Serbian Novak Djokovic before the end of the year, taking advantage of the Chinese ATP circuit, after winning his China Open debut.

“Novak will play in Paris and in the Finals. There are many points that he can win and where he will finish number one. We are obvious We will fight so that it does not happen and we can take that position from him.“, he declared in a press conference after defeating German Yannick Hanfmann in Beijing in the first round.

The Murcian emphasized that the “goal of these two tournaments”, referring to the ATP 500 in Beijing and the Master 1,000 in Shanghai, is “to perform well with the hope of regaining the number one position”.

As for his fight with Hanfmann, he emphasized that “Really nice, moves well, plays well”and added that he still needs to improve on his serve, which was “not that good” in the first set.

Regarding his first experience with the Asian giant, Alcaraz expressed that he was very grateful for the encouragement shown by so many people.

“It was fun hearing people yelling my name and saying things in Spanish, like ‘Come, Carlitos!’, ‘I love you, Carlos!’. These are things that, to be honest, we did not expect,” added the Murcian tennis player.

Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil will face Italian Lorenzo Musetti (n.18) in the round of 16 of the tournament this Sunday, having defeated Russian Karen Khachanov (n.14) in the first round.
