Alejandro Valverde, Ivan García Cortina and Martha Romeu is included in the Spanish team that will participate next weekend in the second edition of the Gravel World Championship.
The discipline of gravel, which has experienced a wave of continuous growth in recent times, will be alive this coming weekend, October 7 and 8, its main festival in the Italian region of Venetowhich hosted the same event last year at its premiere.
The Murcian Alejandro Valverderecently retired as a road professional, a number will be entered to compete at the highest level this Sunday for the first time since his retirement.
The Murcian cyclist competed this year in two events belonging to the UCI Gravel World Series, The Indomable and the Hutchinson Ranxo Gravel, and in both he achieved success with great clarityshowing that it is maintained at a very high level.
In this Gravel World Cup he will also represent the Spanish team together Ivan García Cortinahis former teammate at Movistar, na is from being 11th in the recently held European Road Championship.
In addition to Valverde and Cortina, they will compete in the colors of the national team at the Gravel World Championship Sergio Mantecón, Alberto Losada, Ferrán Robert, Darío Gadeo, José María Sánchez, Eduardo Talavera, Julen Zubero and Irene Mendez.
They will also compete in this Gravel World Championship, after claiming a wild card, Enrique Morcillooutstanding cyclist in long-distance mountain bike events; Martha Romeu, a cyclist from Laboral Kutxa who finished 14th in the Gravel World Championship last year; and Guayente Minchotspecialist in Gravel competitions.
The women of the elite category will compete on Saturday, October 7 at a 140 km route and just over 1,600 meters of elevation gain starting at Le Bandie and ending at Pieve di Soligi. The elite men will run on Sunday, October 8 on a route with a start and finish at the same locations, but with 169 km of distance that will lead them to accumulate almost 2,000 meters of elevation gain.
The Belgian Gianni Vermeersch and the French Pauline Ferrand-Prevot became the first rainbow of the disciplinewhile the podiums were completed by Daniel Oss and Mathieu Van der Poel in the elite men’s category and Sina Frei and Chiara Teocchi in the elite women’s category.
