Morocco denied in a statement that it offered money to Lamine Yamal to agree to play for its national team and respected the FC Barcelona forward’s decision to do so in Spain.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) categorically denies the false information published in the Spanish sports newspaper AS in its edition of Tuesday, October 10, 2023,” the statement said.
In the aforementioned article it is stated that Lamine Yamal received pressure and offers of money to decide to play for Morocco, his father’s country of origin, although the 16-year-old young player was born in Catalonia.
Also, the FRMF maintains that this information “is not based on any evidence, as we respect the decisions of the player Lamine Yamal, as well as other Moroccan players who originally chose other teams.”
