Marco Verratti (30) is no longer comfortable with PSG and this summer he decided to pack his bags and head to Saudi Arabia after 11 years at the Parc des Princes. A change of scenery is not only a sporting bet but also a personal one. The Italian has been asked many times about his lifestyle and that doesn’t sit well with him.
In statements to ‘L’Equipe’, Verratti, from Qatar, explained how he sees it: “This is my way of being. For me football is always a game, but then I have a life. The pleasures I have are going to a restaurant or drinking alcohol when there is no training. There are players who hide, but I always take responsibility, both in life and on the field.”
The footballer believes that “people also like me a little for that because they see that I am a normal person, like them. I know very well the moments when I would be with my friends and go to clubs when I was young. (. .. ) I’ve always been very professional,” he defends, defending himself from some critics who don’t think well of his way of understanding life.
He also recalled the “sincere” conversation in which coach Luis Enrique told him that he did not count on him and he assured that there were teammates who begged him to stay. “I am someone sincere, I say what I think and they have done the same. When we back to work, I met with the coach and he told me that it was not part of his plans. He simply told me that he wants to to change, to do something new, that he has been here for many years.”
