Athletic will face its first rival in the cup today in the draw that starts at 1 pm in the sports city of Las Rozas. The lions will face one of 22 teams distributed among three pots. Initially there will be ten teams of the regional category that passed the previous qualifying round: Boiro (La Coruña), Deportivo Murcia (Murcia), Quintanar de la Orden (Toledo), Tardienta (Huesca), Rubí (Barcelona), Turégano ( Segovia ), Hernán Cortés (Badajoz), Buñol (Valencia), Chiclana (Cádiz) and Atlético de Lugones (Asturias).
The second is made up of four semifinalists of the Federation Cup, all of them from the Second RFEF: San Roque de Lepe (Huelva), UD Logroñés (team fifth in the same group as Bilbao Athletic), Badalona Fitur and Talavera (Toledo). These are the most powerful rivals that can be lucky.
And the third is made up of eight Third RFEF teams: Arosa (Pontevedra), Real Jaén, Azuaga (Badajoz), Varea (Logroño), Astorga (León), Manacor (Mallorca), Lorca Deportiva (Murcia) and Atzeneta (Valencia) .
The members of the first pot will face the ten Primera teams, which are not the four qualified for the Spanish Super Cup: Barça, Real Madrid, Atlético and Osasuna. Amorebieta of Second is also exempt in this first round as the champion of the First Federation. The four in the second group will play against the remaining four in the top category and the two remaining unopposed will do so against a member of pot 3.
This tie, again a single home match of the modest kind as it has been in previous seasons, will be played on October 31, November 1 and 2.
The Federation regained this formation in the 2019-20 campaign. Since then, Athletic have always managed to get past the first round. The lions left Intercity in that period (0-3) and did the same to Ibiza (1-2), Atlético Mancha Real (0-2) and Alzira (0-2) in the next three.
