“In terms of logistics, tennis sucks. There’s no worse sport”

Date:

Tennis is one of the most projected sports in the world. Its impact and the reach of audiences is a good example that we are facing a huge problem, although not without problems.

In recent weeks there have been complaints. First because of the schedules of some tournamentswho finished their afternoon sessions well into the early morning, then due to economic inequality causing players outside the top 100 to have serious problems staying afloat on the circuit, and now the logistical difficulties experienced by players.

Daria Kasatkina opened the lid of the thunder who, on his YouTube channel, has been very scathing of the WTA and its organization.

You come with a Master’s degree and they just pick you up from an airport. They don’t accept you from others. Last night I played in Tokyo and it was impossible to fly at night. So I have to fly the next day at 10 in the morning. I have to get here earlier because I have to play tomorrow… Honestly, I’m really tired. Tennis itself is the simplest thing we do. “Everything else is bullshit,” he complained while riding in a taxi with his companion.

“I can’t travel anymore. I can’t pack my things… these planes, moving… When you can’t communicate with people from different countries, constantly changing beds, constantly packing and unpacking suitcases every week, I can’t travel anymore. I can’t. My body is telling me to fuck off. For the third time in a month and a half my throat hurts and, in general, my condition is incomprehensible. In terms of essential logistics, tennis is exhausting, there is no worse sport in the world” he added.

All this comes amid increasingly pressing rumors of a merger between the ATP and the WTA. It is expected that before the end of 2023, representatives from both circuits will meet to address the issue, with the aim of unifying the governance of men’s and women’s tennis and strengthening a professional structure that seeks to protect itself from the interests of Saudi Arabia.

They are trying to avoid a ‘takeover’ like other sports have experienced recently such as golf or paddle tennis with the emergence of sovereign funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, respectively.
