Movistar team announced this Thursday the signing of the 24-year-old Spanish cyclist Javier RomoSpanish under 23 champion in 2020 and current WorldTour cyclist, for two seasons (2024-25).
The talent from La Mancha, currently a member of the Astana Qazaqstan Team, will fight alongside the blue squad to continue his development. Romo will share a team with Manlio MoroEuropean champion and the first announced signing of the Movistar Team.
“I try to apply what I learned from them three years in Astanaand having the added motivation of racing for the top Spanish team in the top category is a great incentive,” said the athlete after hearing the news.
Despite two injuries in 2023 –a maxillary fracture and fistula from a fall at Itzulia and a broken vertebra at La Vuelta-, Javier Romo presented this year the details that motivated his jump: best youth, and 7th overall, in the Vuelta a Burgos.
“I want to show that I am a more mature rider than a few years ago and that I can maintain the good level that I have shown in some days of the season, but longer throughout the year. On the other hand, I think I can achieve successes and help my teammates achieve them as well” he admitted
