The president of the Catalan Tennis Federation, Jordi Tamayohighlighted in Ceuta that being a member of the board of directors of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) means that he will “fight” for national tennis can “put together” the great events of the ITF in our country.
In an interview with EFE in Ceuta, a city he visited in recent days, Jordi Tamayo indicated that his appointment will allow national tennis. “Have a voice in the highest decision-making body at the international level in the world of this sport.
The Catalan leader, who is first vice president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), appreciated this appointment by emphasizing that “There are fourteen people who make up the board of directors from around the worldfrom Europe only six can be present and, therefore, the complexity”.
The American David Haggerty has been re-elected president of the ITF at the general meeting held in Cancún (Mexico) at the end of September, while Jordi Tamayo was chosen as one of the fourteen members of the board during the period 2023-2027.
“I accepted the position with great enthusiasm because it was not an easy task, because it is a challenge and a responsibility and we will have a voice and a vote in the ITFthe importance that comes with it”, he confessed.

“This year we have tests in Córdoba, Málaga and Seville, in addition to the wheelchair master in Barcelona, that is, major ITF events take place in Spain such as the Davis Cup, Davis Cup Junior Finals and Gainbridge’s Billie Jean King Cup. And this means being active on an international level,” he said.
Because of this incident, Jordi Tamayo hopes that “these events are now consolidated with the responsibility of the board of directors and Spain will also have a say in changing the future of world tennis: we have a very professional working group and I think there will be a change in strategy because many strategies happen,” he stated.
Economic recovery in Catalonia
Jordi Tamayo has held the position of president of the Catalan Federation since 2017, “which is in liquidation situation with a debt of 6 million euros“.
“At the end of this year the debt will be one million euros and if everything goes well at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 we will have paid the historic debt of the Catalan Federation” he hinted.
