“I am excited to take on the role of sports director at Astana Qazaqstan for next season. After working at the Tour de France with the staff and riders, I know I have a lot more to give to professional cycling. “With the support of my family I believe I can help lead our talented riders to victories in some of the best and most important races on the calendar,” said the Aussie coach.
For his part, the manager of the team, the Kazakh Alexander Vinokourov, valued the experience with Renshaw on Tour. “We had a wonderful experience with Mark Renshaw at the Tour de France. Their help and advice was very useful not only in terms of sprinting but also in terms of race strategy. We have a common perspective on many aspects of team building through the prism of race management and preparation. That’s why I think having a young sports director with a different and modern perspective on cycling will help us keep improving,” said Vinokourov.
