The Slovak star, who has 121 victories under his belt, announced his intention to change from road cycling to mountain biking in January during the Vuelta a San Juan, in Argentina, aiming for the Olympic goal in Paris next summer.

A decision that will force Sagan to change his training, where he plans to include the road modality by participating in several races. “Mountain races are shorter than road races and on the bike you need a different kind of effort. but my training is really different than in previous years,” Sagan explained to Sporza.

In 2024 some “small” road races could have the presence of one of the best runners in history. “If possible I will do some small road races in preparation for mountain biking, but no WorldTour races,” he said. So far the Slovak champion has not revealed which team he will compete in the road races.
