After a season that did not match his expectations, Andy Murray announced this Friday that he will stop working, for the third time, with Ivan Lendl.
The British tennis player won his three Grand Slam titles with Lendl, a former world number 1 in the 1980s, and hired him as coach in March.
Although the Scot, now 36, is back in the top 50 in the world (ranked 42) after suffering a serious hip problem, he did not get the results he had hoped for.
“Ivan was by my side in some of the best moments of my career and I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve helped me achieve.“said Murray. He’s a unique personality who knows what it takes to win, and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years.”
Lendl coached Murray from 2013 to 2014 and again from 2016 to 2017.
People say that The 63-year-old tennis player’s reluctance to travel far from his base in the United States is one of the reasons. why the two decided to end their collaboration again.
