New wave of attacks – attack on Kiev with ballistic missiles

Date:

According to the air defense in Kiev, Russia has again massively attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles of various types. Air defense officials said in Kiev on Saturday that 19 of the 31 drones had been destroyed. People in the Ukrainian capital had to flee to bomb shelters.

It was not reported whether all drones shot down targets in Ukraine. Some regions in Ukraine reported impacts. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, for example, authorities said two drones hit a building, causing fire and destruction. The capital Kiev also reported drone attacks that were repulsed.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced in the morning that explosions had been heard near the capital. The anti-aircraft defenses are active, he explained in his Telegram channel. He called on people to seek shelter in bunkers.

No casualties from Russian attack
According to initial findings, there were no injuries. The media had reported that the air raid sirens only went off after the sound of explosions.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat later explained that they were ballistic missiles, which were harder to detect with radar because of their speed. According to initial findings, two Iskander-type missiles hit a field. Authorities said five houses were damaged by the blast wave. It was the first attack of its kind in more than 50 days, they said.

Russia has been attacking Ukraine from the air with drones, missiles and cruise missiles for more than twenty months in its war of aggression. In many places, anti-aircraft defenses work thanks to Western defense systems. However, effects sometimes occur. The destruction is sometimes enormous. Time and time again, people are killed or injured.

Concerns about trench warfare
There are currently no signs that the war will end anytime soon. The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Valeriy Zalushny, said last week that the ground war in Ukraine had reached a stalemate. He also warned in an article for the British magazine ‘The Economist’: ‘Trench war would take a long time and entail enormous risks for the armed forces of Ukraine and for the state.’
