Sainz, engine temperature problems in sprint race: “We suffered”

Date:

Carlos Sainz finished 8th in the sprint race of the 2023 F1 Brazilian GP held this Saturday. The Madrid driver, who started 9th, was unable to fight to gain more places from eighth place, due to an overheating problem with his Ferrari’s engine.

According to Carlos himself, this setback prevented him from setting the true speed of his Ferrari. He had to slow down and was able to prevent the car in front of him from going into DRS. He had to defend himself against Daniel Ricciardo, and he did it well. The Australian tried DRS twice in the straight but Carlos always got it back with a good counter attack.

“In the beginning we suffered a lot with the engine temperature. We had to lift a lot on the straights and we had to protect the engine temperature a lot. I was half a second or a second slower per lap than I could have done. because of the temperatures, which probably surprised us,” commented Carlos Sainz.

“And then I lost the DRS train. When you lose it, you use more tires because you have to try to recover what you lost on the straights. And in the end I lost a lot. I hope that tomorrow goes better because otherwise we are in for a long career,” argued the Madrid native.

Looking ahead to the race, the Spaniard can only hope to suffer less in terms of engine temperature.

“Today we saved all the good tires we had for tomorrow, so now we expect to suffer. AlphaTauri had a new tire that helped them a lot. And then, now, looking ahead to tomorrow, I simply hope that we don’t have to suffer with the temperatures because that is the reason why we lost everything today,” he concluded.
