The Irish Football Federation (FAI) has decided not to renew their coach Stephen Kenny as a result of a disappointing record in the qualifying phase for Euro 2024. A series of matches that ended on Tuesday with the poor draw (1-1) against New Zealand in friendliesor played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Ireland were left out of the final stage of Euro 2024 after the end penultimate in its group with six points from eight games. Their two victories came against last-placed Gibraltar and on Saturday they ended the group stage by beating the Netherlands in Amsterdam 1-0.
“Stephen Kenny’s contract as coach of the Ireland men’s senior team will not be renewed following the conclusion of qualification for UEFA EURO 2024,” the FAI said in a statement.
“The Board agrees with that now is the right time to make changes before the friendlies in March and June 2024 and the next edition of the Nations League starting in September 2024.”
Kenny, 52, replaced Mick McCarthy in April 2020 and signed a new contract to stay in place until after Euro 2024, which will be played from June 14 to July 14 in Germany.
