Date:

An amazing comeback Alex de Minaur (4-6, 7-6 and 7-5) before Czech Jiri Leheckain the best game ever of Davis cupgives a tie to Australia (1-1) and leaving everyone to decide on the doubles.

A great game awaits in the second round of the quarterfinals, with all kinds of script twists and a champion that at times seems doomed.

In two and a half hours of exchanging blows, we went from a fatal outcome for Australia to the joy and faith of dozens of ocean fans who, from the other side of the map, did not want to miss the event in Martín Carpena in Malaga.

Czechia fell, and it started off on a very good foot. A consistently strong serve and a killer forehand gave Jiri Lehecka the confidence sweet spot to go up 4-2 in less than twenty minutes.

But De Minaur took his options soon and forced the score to 4-4 on the threat of a comeback in the first set that his rival did not allow, as Lehecka recovered his best repertoire of blows to close the score 6-4 and put his country one step closer to the semifinals.

In the second set, the Spanish-Australian tennis player found a spark of faith and went from 3-1 to 4-3 and even enjoyed an advantage with 40 even, but he was unable to destabilize Lehecka, who took the match at 5-4 and with a serve to win.

When many had given up on De Minaur, the tennis player with the black cap stepped up and he turned the situation around, saw his moment of inspiration: 6-6 and the tie-break. There the best De Minaur appeared to level the match.

In the final set, both of them came with good feelings, great tennis level tops and support from their fans behind them. But De Minaur’s experience and strength tipped the balance and with a great final period he closed out the final 7-5.

So, Australia achieved an epic tie after Czech Tomas Macchac defeated Jordan Thompson in the first round (6-4 and 7-5). All remains to be decided in the doubles which will again be played by Jiri Lehecka, with Adam Pavlasek against Australians Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell.
