According to the Koha newspaper portal, FTK indicates that before the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup against Great Britain on Thursday in Malaga, a song was heard that mentioned in its lyrics that “the flag of Serbia should fly from Prizren (a city in the south). from Kosovo) to Rumija (a mountain in Montenegro)”.
“It is regrettable that this kind of provocation with nationalist songs happens at major sporting eventsespecially in the Davis Cup, which is the world tennis championship,” said a statement from FTK.
The note announces that the FTK, in coordination with the country’s institutions, will file a complaint with the International Tennis Federation as the organizer of the competition, the International Olympic Committee and other relevant sports organizations.
Kosovo, a former Serbian province inhabited by a large majority of ethnic Albanians, unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, which the country does not recognize.
Serbia and Kosovo are negotiating the normalization of their relations in a difficult and fruitless dialogue supported by the European Union.
