The new ATP tennis rule that will bother Nadal and Djokovic

Date:

Saudi Arabia debuted as the host of Next Gen ATP Finals, the under-21 ‘masters’ tournament that will take place from November 28 to December 3 at King Abdullah Sports City, with a prize money of two million dollars.

Disappearing Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Ben Shelton and Lorenzo MusettiYes, the French will compete Arthur Filsnew student of Sergi Brugueraand Luca Van Assche, the Swiss Dominic Stricker, the American Alex Michelsen, the Italians Flavio Cobolli and Luca Nardi, the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic and the Jordanian Abdullah Shelbayh.

In this event the ATP tennis regulations are changed annually. This is a platform to test rule changes should they become official in the future. Most of them are intended to shorten the time of the matches and increase the spectacle.

Matches are best of five sets, but the winner is whoever reaches 4 games with a two-game advantage or a tiebreak is played to 3-3. And there is no benefit to the deuce.

As in other editions, fans can move freely in the stands. Something that is more difficult to transfer to the ATP Tour, although depending on the courts and tournaments it is already an obstacle for tennis players, not for the great figures who always play in the best stadiums.

Among these new Next Gen 2023 experiments, there is no initial warm-up after the track draw. Of course, tennis players can do this before going to the court.

The judges will sit on a chair almost at the height of the net. He lowers his position to have more visibility for the fans behind him.

And, a variation that will have a bigger impact in an ATP match. That would certainly be controversial, with the Spanish hardly approving of that alone. Rafael Nadal or the Serbian Novak Djokovictaking their time to start a point.

There is already an installed ATP Tour rule of 25″ to serve after a point. Although this is not without controversy, as the referee decides when the countdown starts.

This time is reduced to 15″ in Next Gen ATP if the previous point is three or fewer strokes.

More controversy will result in the presence of time between the first and second points, particularly the maximum of 8″ in the test that is currently underway. This will change the tasks of the players such as Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovicnot so much in the new generations, who tend to go faster.

Rafa Nadal will have first-hand information, because Abdullah Shelbay He trains at his academy in Manacor.
