Tiger Woods is willing to participate this week in Hero World Challenge, a tournament that counts towards the world ranking that takes place in the Bahamas and features twenty of the best players in the world. Be his comeback after missing the Augusta Masters in April because of the pain he was experiencing in his right leg.
Woods, at age 47, has struggled to last eighteen holes of play since his February 2021 car accident that left him with serious injuries to his right foot and leg. However, he has not resigned and is looking to return for the 2024 season, with the goal of playing one tournament per month. Therefore, he will use the Hero this week as a test bed.
“During the tournament that I shared with my son, I realized that I might be able to do it. I have played many holes. I wasn’t worried about walking 90 holes thanks to the device placed on my foot, but my knee and back hurt…,” he said.
He was ready to try again. “The hard part is the six months of not doing anything, especially the first two… But here I am,” he said.
Woods has set a clear example that you can return to the highest level after a serious injury. “What Rafa did in Australia 2022 was extraordinary, winning with a broken leg. The passion with which he plays is an inspiration,” the golfer said of the role model he set out to try to return.
Tiger is not only committed to trying to return, but he also strictly follows the negotiations between the PGA and the LIV. “The players are more involved in these types of decisions and I’m happy with how the process has progressed in this regard. But December 31 is fast approaching and there are still many requests from players that we would like to see implemented,” he noted.
