More than 40,000 police officers will be deployed for the opening of the Paris Games

Date:

French law enforcement forces to mobilize more than 40,000 officers for Olympic Games opening ceremony of Paris on July 26, which for the first time will take place in an open urban space, on the banks of the Seine River.

The number was given by the Paris Police Prefect, Lauren Núñez, who in an interview published this Wednesday by ‘Le Parisien’ explains that in the daily life of the Games There will be an average of 30,000 police and gendarmes deployed in the areas where the competitions will be held. and in other related centers, such as the athletes’ residence or the press center.

Núñez confirms that the number of attendees who will witness the opening ceremony has not yet been set.after Le Parisien itself announced – without officially confirming it – that the capacity initially considered was reduced to 400,000 people for security reasons.

That mainly depends – says the prefect – on the artistic program developed.“because you have to manage the entrances and exits, the presence of ‘bouquinistes’ (booksellers’ stalls on the river docks) along the route, the “strategic places where we fear people gather” and other variables.

That’s why the capacity won’t be set until spring, he added.

Established are the security perimeters, of which there will be four around the different Olympic centers. The first is the organizers of the Games, where only accredited people (athletes, team members, organizers, journalists, employees, as well as spectators with tickets) can enter .

Then there will be a protection perimeter that you have to undergo a search to enter. This perimeter, in principle, will not affect the inhabitants, except during the opening ceremony.

In the latter case, the protection perimeter will cover the inhabitants around the route along the Seine. since a few days ago with a limit on the entry of vehicles “to a strict minimum”, with searches of all who entered.

On July 26, a few hours before the start of the parade, inside a special “red perimeter” Only those who can justify that they are going to their home or a hotel or who have a ticket for the ceremony can enter.

Around the Olympic centers there will also be two perimeters with road traffic restrictions, where access to pedestrians or cyclists will not be restricted.

In the first of these circulation perimeters, “red”, vehicles will be prohibitedexcept for those who get derogations, such as neighbors, those who visit vulnerable people, emergency and breakdown services, as well as taxis or Transport Vehicles with Drivers (VTC), but only with special proof.

They all need to be registered beforehand on a digital platform.

Finally, a “blue” area will be established where the circulation of vehicles will be restricted. In transit. So to access, you have to justify your presence.
