German team Nico Rosbergformer Formula One champion, has established himself champion this Sunday of the Extreme-E all-terrain electric vehicle championship after the last round, which was held in the region of Antofagasta, in northern Chile.
The Rosberg X Racing (RXR) team finished as the leader of the classification with 182 points to achieve his second title in the third season of this category, which closed the Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix where the ninth and tenth rounds were held.
Acciona Sainz XE Team (ASXE) finished second in the championship with 171 unitsand third Veloce Racing with 155 after winning the last race.
RXR’s Swedes Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinksy arrived in Chile three points behind the ASXE leaders in the overall table and were able to oust them with victory on Saturday to take a six-point lead.
A first place they got in the tenth round, which they finished second, while Carlos Sáinz’s team, including Laia Sanz and Swede Mattias Ekström, did not score due to a rollover.
It was an intense finish after the ASXE team had reduced the gap to five points in the morning, raising expectations of a photographic close that was ultimately dramatic.
