“This is an unprecedented shame. This mother is brave and has certainly never had it easy. “It is not easy to have to be there all the time for a son with a disability,” says reader Brigitte in response to the ‘Krone’ report on the fate of Silvia D. from Gramastetten.
Several readers offered to pay out of their own pocket so that the 66-year-old could still go to a spa.
So far it has failed because of the travel allowance
The woman from Mühlviertel, who has been caring for her disabled son Markus for 47 years, could not imagine leaving him all alone. Unless he would be taken by a transport service from his residential facility in St. Peter am Wimberg to the daycare center in Linz.
According to D., this would require a travel subsidy from the state. The request, in which the 66-year-old did not specifically mention the planned treatment, has so far been rejected. Reason: No economically unreasonable additional costs may arise.
The State Council took the floor
According to our ‘Krone’ report, the office of State Councilor for Social Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer contacted us on Sunday. The ÖVP politician had the situation described and had already contacted the president of the responsible Lebenshilfe Upper Austria, Stefan Hutter. Quote Hattmannsdorfer: “Together with Lebenshilfe we will offer the mother a solution so that she can continue with the treatment.”
