Liverpool have won even on its gray nights. In the antipodes of their brilliant and fast game, Jürgen Klopp’s men were able to follow in Arsenal’s footsteps by beating Sheffield United thanks to goals from Van Dijk and Szoboszlai (0-2).
The ‘red’ team took to the field with personality. Wanted to find a place with a few touches, but no success with the shot on goal. A deficit that lasted most of the game. Also among the mistakes, the first was the most serious after the loss of Joe Gomes, which Kelleher had to save in a one-on-one with McAtee.
Not that Sheffield were doing anything of note to preserve the draw. It’s more that Liverpool are on a slow march, even knowing that every point is gold the way to the Premier League. There was less of a rush when Van Dijk, on a corner kick where he could have been fouled, got on the mark to score the first (37′).
He did it with his second shot between the sticks. The former, the work of another central defender, Konaté, on a corner kick. Same as the third, with a similar play finished by Salah but this time taken by Foderingham with a huge hand raised already in the second half.
It was a dull contest, devoid of tension and with a Sheffield side who put more will than good intentions on the ball. So, he only had to try to achieve surprise in the last moments of the game, but his sentence came. Without Salah and Luis Díaz on the field, or with Mac Allister injured, Szoboszlai had to score the second and final goal in stoppage time (95′).
