Al-Attiyah signed for Dacia for 2025

Date:

Nasser Al-Attiyah, 5-time Dakar champion and recent winner of his second consecutive World Rally-Raid (W2RC) title, will join Dacia’s ambitious and new project for Dakar 2025.

The Romanian firm announced a few months ago its arrival in Dakar with two units, one of which was driven by the Spanish Cristina Gutiérrez in her jump in the highest category of the Dakar in cars (T1+), and the other, his partner in Extreme E , the 9-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb.

The Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah will lead the third unit of the new team, something that can be intuited by the arrival of Nasser in the Prodrive team, BRX, to compete in the Dakar this January in 2024 after leaving Toyota. The Qatari is looking for new challenges and a team with a project of greater development than the champion Toyota and has confirmed his arrival at Dacia, a project in which the Romanian firm joins Prodrive and Aramco.

“Our vision is to promote and also export the group’s hybrid combustion solutions and low-carbon alternatives. We will compete in Dakar with synthetic fuels, developed by ARAMCO, highly ecological fuels and with efuels, fully which is carbon-free, renewable and electricity-based,” said Dacia CEO, Denis Le Vot, at the presentation of the project in July.

Nasser won his first Dakar in 2011 with Volkswagen. He repeated in 2015 with Mini and in 2019, 2022 and 2023 he completed his triple with Toyota. Now he is looking to win the Dakar with his fourth different brand.
