Jon Rahm is aware of the “change in the world of golf” brought about by his recent involvement in the LIV Golf, the Super League funded by the Sovereign Fund of Saudi Arabia.
“I am under very strict instructions not to hold public events because of the change I gave to the golf world last week,” Rahm said, after being recognized this Wednesday in Bilbao with the ‘Dama Bilbaína 2023’ award given by Bilbao Society.-private club founded in 1839 with about a thousand members- in recognition of his sporting career.
The ‘Lion of Barrika’ was “excited” about the award and was also a little overwhelmed by the presence of the media, which was summoned by the organizers. “I didn’t think there would be any cameras and it would be more intimate. It’s an honor to be one of the twenty people or institutions awarded this award, because it means I’ve done something special in my career”, although ‘t he admitted that the people in the room were like “someone normal who doesn’t do anything different from anyone”.
“You only see me more on TV and that’s it. Maybe less in the future at the moment. But hey, hopefully it will change,” Rahm joked, implicitly alluding to his departure from the PGA Tour, the American golf circuit.
